I finally sent in my MB (sitting in front of the house for the last three months) to a dealer. The gears were stuck and would not go past second gear. I showed the MB manager in detail all of the information I accumulated relating to the balance shaft issue, and the pending class action suit. All I got was pretty much the same dialogue you would hear from a snake oil salesman. A couple of days later that included a $130.00 per hour diagnostic test, I was informed that it was a transmission valve body problem, not an engine problem, that will run @ $1,900. The repair hasn't been completed yet. They will drive the car around when the work is done. This is where I'm holding my breath because I truly believe that the balance shaft will need to be visually looked at, not from a faulty sensor detected from the diagnostic. In my internet research, a valve body problem can occur due to faulty lubricant, oil or METAL DEBRIS! Isn't that created from the poor metal used in the balance shaft? I have no idea. I have no mechanical background. Can these problems be connected, and am I about to get "shafted" again??
