I was directed to this site through google. It is frustrating to see that others have the same issue which NHTSA has identified as a problem for 2003-2009 models but yet it is clear it is going further than that. My car is good condition. I keep up with my maintenance as required and it is garage kept. If this defect has been identified then and owners are still having the same issue Mercedes should step up and fix the problem for free. Are they waiting to see if a car actually blows up in someone's garage before they reopen the matter. What have others done. Help!!!

For the last couple of months I have noticed a very strong gasoline smell in my garage and inside the car, especially for the first couple of days after filling up the gas tank for my Mercedes E350 (2011). After doing some additional research on the same problem on the internet, I have noticed that it's a very commonly known problem on this specific series of models and should be covered under the warranty. After filling up the gas tank, if I will leave my car parked in the garage the smell is so strong that we can't go inside the garage as the odor/smell is so bad.

Mercedes has extended the warranty on previous years and other models but has not extended the warranty to the 2011 E350 models at yet. Due to this now I have to parked my car always outside and I'm planning to take it to the Dealer next week to get it checked.

E350 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

Filled up gas tank and noticed a strong fuel odor when left over night in the garage. Check engine light came on next day, so I took it to my mechanic to run a diagnostic test (error 1089). Apparently this has been a prevalent issue with the E-Class model that MB issued a 15 year extension warranty for model years 2003-2009. Mine is a model 2011 with the exact problem but it is not covered by the extended warranty. I called MB customer service and was put on hold for over 30 minutes as they "attempted" to find someone who was better suited to explain to me why my vehicle was excluded from the warranty and then was finally disconnected. 30 minutes wasted with no result.
