On 02/15/2019, I received a letter from Mercedes-Benz usa, llc, regarding mbusa recall # 2019010001. The letter advised that "the passenger side airbag in your vehicle is affected by this recall based on the defect decision of tk holdings, Inc. ('takata')". in the two-year period since my receipt of the original letter, I have received no follow-up communications from the manufacturer regarding this issue. I have proactively contacted both Mercedes-Benz usa and my local dealership multiple times, in an attempt to obtain some indication as to when the recall will be addressed, only to be informed that the status is still "pending".

( takata ). under certain circumstances during a crash that necessitates frontal airbag deployment, the defect in your passenger-side frontal airbag inflator may cause the inflator to explode. A passenger-side inflator explosion during deployment could result in metal fragments striking the front passenger or other occupants, possibly causing serious injury or death. Safety risk: According to takata, in the event of an inflator explosion, metal fragments could pass through the air bag cushion material, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants. Remedy: An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the passenger-side airbag. Recall status: Recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available

I purchased the new vehicle and thought I was safe. Now I have had a recall for the airbags and I do not feel safe. There is not a "fix" for my vehicle at this time. I do not feel safe. That is why I bought a new vehicle. I am in the same situation that I was in before the purchase. The letter came out in March and I spoke to the service department and they said that they should be getting new airbags soon. This is now September, and still nothing can be done.
