Car enters limp mode at various speeds about once a month. It clears out when the car is pulled over, turned off for about five seconds and then turned back on. Initally, thought the computer was having a bad day, so didn't worry to much about it. After the second time, did initial diagnosis via code scanner and determined misfire on cylinder one. Replaced all plugs and ignition coils with OEM coils. Happened third time, did some more research and cleaned the MAF and did a reset on the throttle sensor. Driving at 45 mph when it happened the fourth time, so was fed up, took it to the dealer and it turns out the cylinder is bad and their a oil leak because of the valve seal, so it all has to be replaced. Mercedes extended the warranty and so it's covered.

This is the first time experiencing it and it's unnerving to have a car shake, not accelerate, not shift gears, have the dash light up and not know what's going on. I have never heard of limp mode until I did some research. It's basically the engine protecting itself at your expense. Thankfully no one was injured or in an accident. Did some more digging around and apparently this is a big issue and that's why Mercedes has done the extended warranty. Wondering why there isn't a recall. Someone could get seriously hurt, be in an accident if this happened on the freeway.
