Anti Lock Brake System failure. driving on a clear warm day on highway 94 no obstacles no debris no tire blow out ABS kicks in full panic stop while in cruise control and my foot no where near the brake pedal.
Luckily the trucks were a mile behind me and I pulled over.
Pulled the ABS relay in the fuse box to disable ABS, car drives and mechanical brakes are fine. The nearest MB dealer said it was a failure of the ABS controller and or wheel sensor or lateral acceleration sensor or computer.
Will trade in the car for something else, not worth shaking out all possible causes.
