About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The led tail lights are failing. My assessment on this issue is that water and debris are entering the tail light due to a gasket or seal that is failing. Dealer and Mercedes does not want to help, and have told me they will no longer respond to my emails. Im getting the run around. Its clearly a safety defect/hazard, based on Transport Canada. This happens with no warning, until enough led's are out the message turned on.

Purchased car used in February 2015, had to replace right brake light bulb three times within three months. Dealership had to replace the wire harness on both taillights as the contacts on the brake light sockets (both sides) were defective. The C230 model had been recalled for this very problem, however, the ML350 was not included in the recall. I would advise the NHTSA to see if other models of the Mercedes have been having this problem to avoid rear end accidents when brakes fail. The car is only five years old, and has not been in an area that should cause erosion of failure of both wiring harnesses.

The right brake light sensor gave a warning that the brake lamp needs replacing. While making arrangements to replace, the left brake light began to malfunction and also needed replacement. Since both led brake lights failed within 3 months it seems to be a systemic problem with Mercedes Benz led lights. I reported the problem to Mercedes Benz usa and was told the vehicle is out of warranty but they would call the local dealer on my behalf and speak with the manager to see if there was anything that could be done. We replaced both rear light assemblies at a cost of $832.44 at the dealership in danbury. Mb of danbury reduced the labor charge by a small percentage. I have zero confidence that this will not happen again during the life of the vehicle.
