About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Just bought this car from a family member who takes great care of their cars. The rear drivers side passenger seatbelt does not work. I gently pulled out and it doesn't retract no matter what I tried. Now I can't use with my 3 kids. These rear seat belts were only lightly used from previous owner as this was her commuter car.seems to me this has been a common complaint online yet no recall. Please investigate right away.

Back seat L&R passenger seat belts will not retract. They stay extended creating a safety issue for back seat passengers.
- Gardnerville, NV, USA
The contact owns a 2010 Mercedes-Benz ML350. The contact stated that the rear driver and passenger side seat belts failed to retract properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the seat belts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.

Rear seatbelt stopped retracting, passenger side.also had ABS and esp warning indicators come on, was told all sensors should be changed but due to an extended warranty bought through a used car dealer only one sensor was changed.this has happened two times in three years
- Sarasota, FL, USA
Rear seatbelt fails to retract, stays out in the fully extended position. This prevents the seatbelt from retaining any passenger using the seatbelt. Have researched many complaints on this same issue. It appears the retract components do not operate properly. This is a safety issue in that you cannot tell when the seatbelt will malfunction.
- Lone Tree, CO, USA
Rear passenger side seat belt is fully extended and will not retract. The seatbelt is not operable, and is a severe safety concern.
- Roseville, CA, USA
Rear seatbelts fail to retract. I'm waiting on a call from the dealer's service department as to the cost to replace the rear seat belts. I have never experienced this problem in any other car brand. Very disappointed and concerned about cost to replace as car is out of warranty. However, since my two young kids ride in the back all the time I need functioning seat belts. Have seen some other similar complaints at various online forums. Perhaps an investigation is warranted due to the seriousness of this issue.
- Woodland Hills, CA, USA
The rear seat belts on this vehicle get stuck all the way out and will not retract. The car is out of warranty as of this month and the dealer is quoting around $800 to fix this known issue. Having a broken retractor is not safe as we cannot put two people in the back seat of our car. A terrible design to have a seat belt break when very few passengers ride in the back seat except for my child. Please help and put a recall on this issue.

Rear passenger seat belts won't retract. This leaves the belts loose and ineffective while driving.
