This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mercedes-Benz dealer.
I store our van in the garage. In the morning, we frequently have to get a backpack out of the car before leaving and when this happens, it triggers the car to start circulating air even though the car isn't turned on. Then about 10 minutes later when it is time to leave and we go back into the garage, the entire garage smells like gasoline. I have to leave the windows rolled down to help dissipate the smell.
I've had this problem since last winter. I took it to the dealership and they claimed that they couldn't fix it if they couldn't replicate the problem. So they said everything was fine and I have been dealing with this issue ever since, but especially when it is cold that night. I don't store any other sources of gasoline in our garage so I know it is coming from the van. I sometimes feel lightheaded in the morning and I worry about exposing my children to gas vapors but it is our only vehicle and I don't know what to do to fix it since the dealership said there was nothing they could do and no reports of this happening to other people.

Dealer replaced high pressure fuel pump under warranty, it's now out of warranty and still smells like gas.

I Just bought my 2016 Metris van have not had it a month yet. When it got a lil cold outside that's when the awful gas smell started. I have a appointment to the dealer this week, we will see what they come up with. This is a safety issue to me but again we will see what the heck they say. It should be a recall. I will do a update after my visit to the dealer.

Employee took vehicle to MB for gas smell. Mechanic said there was nothing wrong. Smelled fumes when cold and warming up vehicle.

Employee smelled gas fumes while warming up vehicle. Took to dealership and at first they tried to saying nothing was wrong, but after being adamant about the situation, dealership replaced "Porous fuel line" system. Vehicle was at dealership for over 2 weeks because fuel line system was made in Germany and did not have part in stock. Had to order. Our company bought (5) 2016 MB Metris cargo vans and 3 out of the 5 had the same issue which I have previously added.

I purchased this vehicle for my wife as we have five small children. A year after purchase, a strong and horrendous gas smell inside the cabin and outside the vehicle began each time upon start up in the cold weather. The gas fumes make it unsafe to transport our minor children. Upon research, I have found multiple websites and forums discussing the frequency of this specific issue with the make, model and year of our Metris. I am very concerned about this issue as it is very unsafe for anyone, especially children.

The service advisor at the Temecula dealer just plain does not want to have my van looked at. quite a few people have notice the van smelling of fuel vapors but somehow the dealers mechanic say the can't smell the fuel problem.
the van is great other than having to smell fuel every friking morning.
I will be adding another problem that took the mechanics 3 days to find out they had to replaced a module called SAM

I am a Tour Operator and have been in a love/hate relationship with my 2016, 7 Passenger Metris. (I will list the others on a separate complaint) About Dec 5th, I started to smell a fuel odor and shook it off as " Well if it gets worse" a huge dose of serious subconscience denial, and a few prayers to the Gods of Small Business.
As with my Metris out of Warranty and the roughly $1700 I have in it from repairs, constant uneven tire wear, 2 sets tires, immediately post Warranty. I swear there was timer planted by the Engineers. Despite it all, with my History of Enabling and Co-Dependant Relationships, being madly in love with the van, I moved forward in forgiveness, praying that another big ticket repair will not come until I was expecting them at 80K or more miles.
For this fuel thing, being out of Warranty, I took it to my awesome Euro Shop guys that know the van from the previous repairs. Upon attempting to diagnose, they received instructions from the software in RED letters to not disconnect the fuel lines from the Pump, take pictures and start a Case. And they learned of a lot of Metris sitting around for MONTHS in the USA, undrivable awaiting instructions from MB. I am freaked as I am going into my busy season in Florida. So off to the Dealership we go. I arrive and the kid in the Service area says they can fix ANYTHING.
I learned of the recall on this today. I hope it's real.
