The contact owns a 2007 Mercedes-Benz R350. While driving approximately 20 mph, the inside of the vehicle filled with smoke. The contact noticed that the driver's seat caught fire. The contact stated that the seat warmer was activated and, once the seat warmer was deactivated, the fire extinguished independently. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

2007 Mercedes Benz R350. Consumer requests an investigation of faulty seat heater element in vehicle. The consumer stated as she was driving with the seat heater on, she suddenly noticed smoke around her head and realized that it was coming from over her shoulder. She immediately turned off the seat heater and after a few minutes the smoke stopped. When she exited the vehicle, she noticed a burn hole in the upright part of the seat. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, where she was informed the seat heater was the cause of the hole and smoke.
