Steering rack leaked - car undriveable. Garage took car in for a week. Repair cost £900 (UK pounds). Interestingly, Mercury (Cougar badged as Ford in the UK) used an alternate steering rack part from mid 1999 onwards. The steering rack was said (by Ford in writing) as having a manufacturing defect that was present from manufacture. My vehicle was out of warranty although Ford UK paid 75% of the repair cost. Has anyone else had this problem ?
