I have a 1984 Grand M Colony Park SW that stopped running just as we got it in our driveway.. we thought the solenoid was fried(wasn't) We noticed that the thing was covered in silicone. turns out that this was the cheap fix for all the broken wires that had started shorting out. Well, we did fry the dist.cap when my son decided to spray water all over it when he replaced a soft hose. That also screwed up the ignition module for the fei. We had a he&* of a time with the module,no damn tool we or Advance auto had would fix it.My b-in law fixed it by breaking the old module off with needle nose pliers, good but now how to get the bolts back in? We hacksawed the bolts so that a SMALL screwdriver would fit.Only thing was it didn't fix the problem. Taping all the obvious breaks in the wires didn't help. It would still only run for a few minutes and then shut off. Timing? Nope, all was ok and we even checked by getting the #1 cylinder on top the old fashioned way. So here it is sitting in our driveway. ALL kinds of advice but my feeling is that with all the brittle and broken and shorted wires one is causing the entire problem. Oh yeah, about a month before this my son used it to tow his demo derby and it overheated. Placed new 50-50 anti freeze and it started right up. Any connection? I went ahead and replaced the water pump and thermostat just in case( This has been a WELL maintained car)and since the radiator looked funky I got a junk yard special, pressure tested it and installed it./Got any ideas? We can both sit on my stoop and just about cry over this. I HAVE to have a big car.Due to fused back I can't get in the kiddie cars they sell now.End of story watch for part 2 cuz I WILL get it running again EVEN at 10 MPG.Remember, silicone ANYTHING that looks broken,my mechanic says it's all you can do
