I have had to replace the regulators in all four windows. Sometimes it appears that the slide sticks on old grease and pulls the cable loose. I bought regulators on line and did repair myself following lincolinsonline. This happened over a 7 year span.

I bought the 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis LS in 2007. It had 63,000 original miles and only one owner. He was an elderly man who bought it brand new in 1994. In 2004 after his passing his son took ownership of it, but it was garage stored.
With that said, the window started slipping in July of 2011. I had it evaluated at Firestone Auto Repair and due to special rivets that connect the regulator to the motor, both need to be replaced, plus labor, the cost of the repair estimation was $450.00. Not worth my money considering the car is so old and no longer holds that value in residual value.
This is a common problem I discovered as a poor design from Mercury.
