The contact owns a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact received a Ford recall notice for the vehicle speed control: Cruise control in August of 2007, and immediately scheduled an appointment to have the vehicle repaired. The dealer informed him that the parts would be unavailable until December of 2007. The contact called again in December and the dealer stated that they did not know when the parts would arrive. The cruise control switch has not been disconnected. There had been no failure to date. The engine size and recall number were unknown. The current mileage was 45,000. Vehicle was leaking fluid out of the cruise control switch wire, which could have started a fire. Manufacturer was contacted by owner.

Braking lights began to malfunction, then the cruise control did so too. There were no consequenes due to this malfunctions, untill the car caught on fire. The front driver side tire begain to catch on fire and so did only the front left side of the car.
