This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mercury dealer.
It happened again!!! I called Ford on April 3 because the same problem is happening. I believe it has something to do with the "LIMPING" PROBLEM they now are fixing with the throttles. Probably going to cost two grand to get it fixed
BS--- I will buy an import next time-- they make cars that go 150,000 before they have any problems!

Bought a (brand new) Ford Bronco, late '80's (Eddie Bauer Edition - 4WD, V8, Auto) and after the many, many mechanical failures, I swore I'd never buy another Ford product. First time shame on Ford; second time shame on me. I bought a 2007 Mercury Mariner V6, 4WD LX. At 70,000 miles it has gone through 4 sets of brakes (including pads, turned rotors, and new rotors), 2 A/C pumps, and now a Transmission (at the cost of $4,000). No car with 70,000 miles should have transmission failure. I, now (too late) am aware the Mariners and the Escapes are notorious for FAILING TRANSMISSIONS. NO EXCUSE FORD!!! I won't make the mistake of buying a Ford product again; you can count on that.

The transmission went out at 55,000, we have a life time power train warranty, they are not honoring it. They said I went 15 miles over on an oil check and change. Rick, the head of the service dept., even stated one has nothing to do with the other. When they were changing my oil the reminder plastic glue on the window never stuck, I always had to drive by or call to sees when I was due.
A sales person there wants to sell us a 2010 Mariner with 45,000, why would I do that when it is coming time for its, transmission breakdown.
I am not anyone special but I will not buy another vehicle from Riser ford, its unfortunate, but my son is a Dr. and he loves Fords, he was getting ready to get a truck for himself, and SUV for his wife, I am really proud of him, he loves me more. You know what they say bad goes around faster than anything else.
I feel the next feasible step would be HONOR THE CONTRACT; or if not then put the transmission in at cost.
