I purchased my 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid with an extended warranty at the beginning of July right before I was going on vacation (took a different car for the vacation as pre-planned). The vehicle was shown to us while the brakes were in the process of being fixed. So a week later we went back and test drove it and the ABS light and parking brake light was on with the message "Service Brake System". They took it back and said it was fixed. So I went on and bought the car. Then as soon as we signed the papers and i went to drive off THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON! So i went in and told them and they said they were fixed and the light just needed reset. I ended up driving it home and i noticed it felt like the brakes were dragging. I told them the next day and they said we could leave it with them over our vacation and they would take a look at them. Under the impression the car was still okay to drive considering they told me it was, we went to a nearby city (15 Miles or so away) and on the way to eat my brakes locked up in the front while i was driving at around 50 miles an hour. I pulled over and they were smoking and smelled burnt. I had to call them and have them tow it back. They said they would fix it for me over my vacation a week later. We get back and they hadn't even started and it was over a month later when i got it back. The costs were over 5000 dollars but they covered it because of the warranty. Pissed..

Ford had a recall on this vehicle for failure of a cooling system of the hybrid battery system that causes vehicles to loose power without warning. This system is even more important as brake failure means no stopping power! This is extremely dangerous as cars today and not supposed to have total brake failure capabilities.

Tried stopping at a stop sign, and had no brakes. Forced to run through the stop sign. Shut the car off, and restarted. Brakes worked fine until I got it home. I have not been able to drive the vehicle since. When I turn on the key the check brake light, ABS light, and Regen Brakes Disabled comes on. NO BRAKES.
