2006 Mercury Milan Premier: When driving at 40-50 MPH and hit the gas to pass or go up a hill the transmission will disengage lose power and lunge forward. Then it will slam back into gear really hard. I researched this problem and the only thing I could find was a TSB to update the PCM and TCM before 20K miles. I bought the car used at 47K and had the updates at 75K with no resolution. I took it to a transmission specialist and they replicated the the issues and after some research they told me that the only thing that could be done is to replace the Valve body and have the latest update installed. They told me that there was no guarantee that it wouldn't happen again because the Aisin/Ford company have not figured out how to fix the problem. So I would spend $2200 for the new valve body and $110 every time I need to update the PCM/TCM. The problem with that is i would only know if there was a new update out there if a take it to a Ford dealership. Why can't Aisin/Ford figure out how to fix the issue? Why wont Ford do a safety recall? This is a very dangerous issue that could get people injured or even killed. I as a consume should not have to go to this length to get a company to fix a known issue that could cause bodily harm. I should not have to pay a lot of money and keep paying money to fix this problem until Aisin/Ford figure it out and then have to pay to get the "Final Fix" FORD SET UP AND FIX THE PROBLEM, UPDATES ARE ONLY A BAND AID.
