Milan

  • 59,500 miles
Pulled 2008 Milan in parking lot, put in park, engine began to race, tapped gas pedal, engine returned to normal. Car started fine, driven short distance, I stopped at stop sign. Put foot on gas pedal, car began 'limp home' mode, was able to pull to curb. Wrench light appeared. Shut car off a few minutes.started fine, wrench light on, was able to drive few blocks to get home. Next day started engine 3 times, each stalling within seconds. Never had issues with car. Purchased precertified in 2011, 52,0000 mi. On it. Will own 7 yrs. May 2018. I put 1000 mi. Yrly. On car. Odometer now under 59,500. On 3/9/18 car towed to dealership (where I purchased it). Car sat in lot 10 days before looked at. Finally, checked and diagnosed. Installed new throttle body. Re-tested. Problem. Installed new accelerator. Re-test. Problem. Codes appearing. I contacted Ford Motor Co. In Michigan.told to keep calling dealership. I've spoken to numerous staff already & asked for loaner car. Not granted. I did internet research & found lawsuit against Ford about 'limp home' mode involving throttle body & computer sensors defect on Ford, Mercury & Lincoln brought on by nccc. Ford not forced to recall this defect involving 1.6 million cars. Many internet sites have shown complaints with this issue. It is a major safety hazard! numerous owners wrote to validate car repaired only to experience same 'limp home' incident return. Stories involve highway driving when loss of acceleration occurred. Someone has to be killed by this manufacturing defect before it's back to forcing Ford to own up to neglect to make a profit. My experience leaves me without a car, cancellations of appts, relying on cabs or friend to shop.this is a serious safety issue. It's now 4 weeks without a car. Am told warranty expired. Can I please be directed to proper government Agency with jurisdiction to help me resolve this?

The failure of the throttle body fortunately occurred in the driveway of a vacation home in chandler, Arizona. I was able to have the car towed to the nearest Ford dealership where the part was replaced. I hate to think what could have happened if we were in a traffic situation when the failure took place. Even though the engine will still run at an idle, the accelerator will not respond enough to move the vehicle forward or backward. Ford needs to recognize the failure of this part as a life threatening matter and issue a recall of all models affected.

After I replaced the original battery, I started the engine. I was unable to accelerate above 750 R.P.M. which is the approximate idle speed of the car. While in gear, I was unable to move forward or back due to lack of power. I had the car towed to the nearest Ford dealer in chandler, AZ. They diagnosed the problem as failure of the throttle body. After replacement, the car is operating normal, although it has only been four days since the service was performed. I do not trust it anymore.

No matter if cold or hot, going forward or backward, engine surges. Better have foot on brake hard to keep from surging uncontrollable. Hold on for dear life.

I was driving down highway 27 when all of a sudden my Milan lost acceleration and would not keep current speed. I drifted over to the side of the road when it turned off completely. The ac/radio/windows still worked but the car would not crank back up. The engine felt like it was shaking while trying to start it back. After about 5-10 minutes the car started right back up and had no other issues until about 3 days later. I thought it might be bad gasoline so I did purchase a fuel cleaner to see if that would help. The problem came back another 2 days later where it would lose acceleration and just drift to a stop. Same issue of having to wait a few minutes before the car would start back up again. The car is now completely parked at my parents house since I can not trust when the car will work or not work. I have two small children and cannot be rear ended because this issue is happening.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 5 mph, the contact attempted to decelerate and the pedal went to the floor. The contact then crashed into another vehicle. There were no injuries. The contact also mentioned that he erroneously depressed the accelerator because it was too close to the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was recommended that the brakes and rotors be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The consumer stated his foot would accidentally hit the accelerator pedal, if he foot was not completely on the brake pedal, which caused the vehicle to surge. Both incidents, resulted in an accident.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while parking and at less then 5 mph, the vehicle surged and abnormally accelerated, jumping a curb. The contact applied the brakes with both feet in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle then skidded several feet before the contact was able to stop the vehicle. The contact was told by the dealer that there was no record of the failure occurring with other models and that there was no use in bringing the vehicle for diagnosis because the diagnostic machine would not be able to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 16,000.

My Mercury Milan is less than a month old. I was driving on a secondary surface road. I accelerated to pass another car, suddenly the car began to accelerate on its own. I applied the brakes they wouldn't work. I pulled the emergency brake up. It would not stop the car. I continued accelerate. I was heading into heaver traffic. I was lucky enough to pull on the shoulder and in order to stop the car I had to shut the engine off. I started the engine now that I was in park and the engine raced. I shut the engine off again. This time it was normal. I was towed to the dealer and the car was examined extensively. Nothing was found.
