The vehicle suddenly stalled while driving at highway speeds (55mph) in heavy traffic. Rapid deceleration and many dashboard lights came on. I was able to change to the right lane and then bring the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder safely, avoiding an accident, as the car was in rapid deceleration and stepping on the gas was unresponsive. There was no acceleration, or engine noise or response when I stepped on the gas pedal while in drive position and the key in the on position.I turned the car off for several minutes, wondering what to do. I then turned the key back on, and the car was able to drive. I took side roads home and then scheduled an appointment at the selling manufacturer dealership. The defect was in the throttle body? they would not cover the $500 repair under the new vehicle warranty (out on time), the $1700 extended warranty I purchased (not covered part), the emissions warranty (not covered part) or the hybrid warranty ( not covered part), or any recall, or goodwill service plan or service bulletin repairs. Then I found out there was a settlement with the NHTSA for similar incidents that Ford agreed to extend the warranty on the throttle body for 150,000 miles or 10 years. (this vehicle is a 2010 with just over 20,000 miles. They said it is not covered under the settlement because it a hybrid and they were not included in the settlement. I think that this premature failure of an item that they will replace if defective in 150,000 miles or ten years as part of a settlement to avoid a recall and associated public disclosure, should be covered under the agreement. I have the part from the dealer. Even though there are fewer hybrids on the road as a statistic, it only takes one failure to cause a tragic result. I can send the part for investigation to determine if there were not enough suppliers and parts identified prior to the settlement.

Immediately after entering a main highway, the engine seemed to die yet idled around 1000 RPM. The dash lights came on, the engine sputtered, but wouldn't increase speed and vehicle wouldn't move more than 2 or 3 miles per hour. After getting it off road and turning ignition off for a couple of minutes, it started and drove fine.

I was driving down the highway traveling at approximately 60mph when the car suddenly stalled and I was not able to accelerate. The wrench light came on at the same time as well. I turned on my hazard lights and was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. The car started to shake a lot as it slowed down. I turned the car off, and was able to start back up again. The very next morning while traveling a 50mph on a different highway the same thing happened again. I took it to the dealership to have a diagnostic run on the car as I had no idea why it was stopping. As I was about to turn into the dealership traveling at 25mph it stalled again. The result of the diagnostic test was there was a code stored in system of the electronic throttle body. It was giving a code for being stuck open when it should not have been. It was a failed component. After further internet research there is an open NHTSA investigation action number PE13003 (www-ODI.NHTSA.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/results.cfm?action_number=PE13003&searchtype=quicksearch&summary=true) for this exact issue. I would like my vehicle to be added to the investigation as this is a serious safety defect with my vehicle that could have caused me bodily harm or death. It needs to be addressed and the part recalled.

I was driving about 40 miles per hour and then all of the sudden the car stop working properly. The wrench lit up on the dashboard. I decided to pull to the side and turn off the car. After turning off the car, I turned it on again and I was able to drive for about 4 miles. Then, when it was time to drive it up a hill, it did the same.

I was driving on a highway, felt a jerk in the engine, and was no longer able to accelerate. The engine continued to run and all electrical components (lights, radio, etc.) were operational, but the car would only decrease speed so I stopped the car on the shoulder. I noticed that the engine stuttered considerably while idling and would not respond to the throttle. The wrench warning light was illuminated on the dashboard. I shut the engine off and called for a tow truck. The tow truck driver arrived after 20 minutes and was able to drive the car onto the flatbed. Some ability to drive forward had returned but I was wary. I had the car transported to a Ford dealership and the service technician identified the throttle body as the culprit ($425 to repair). I've learned subsequent to my experience that this problem is quite common with 2009 - 2011 Mercury Milan. The throttle body repair is covered for 2 years. I'm concerned that this problem may repeat.

Car idle at stop sign, accelerated into highways to make a left turn, loss of power, engine accelerating, but car moving very slowly, stalled. I pulled the car over on the side of the road, and turned the engine off. When I restarted the car a few minutes later, I was able to drive home without any problem. Then, a few days later, as I was on the way to flow auto in winston-salem, nc, about 6 miles from my home, the car stalled during another left hand turn from a stoplight. I purchased this car less than 3 months ago. It had 36,205 miles on it at purchase. Flow auto says the problem is the throttle drive and it isn't covered under the warranty. Within 90 days of purchase, I have to pay $662 for a repair that has been reported thousands of times by owners of Ford Focus and Mercury Milan owners, since the car was produced.

I purchased a 2010 Mercury Milan in Dec of 2012 with 26000 miles. A few weeks after I purchased this vehicle the check engine light came on. I took it back to the dealer and the code that came up was emissions. They replaced the car battery and supposedly checked and there was nothing else wrong with the car. All they ever ask me is do I always go to the same gas station or if it happens after I get gas at which I answered no. It's now been less then a year since I purchased the car and the light has come back on 5 times. I'm sure if I took the car in as soon as the light came on it would be more times but I don't always have the time and schedule and they don't always have a loaner right away so at times it takes me over a month to take it in. This is a hassle and all I get told is that they can't find anything and they reset the light but it always seems to come back on. I don't know what to do and at this point I'm thinking if looking into lemon law. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I had a 2007 Mercury Milan in the past and I never had this problem.

On 5 different occasions during the past week while driving between 70 and 80 mph on the freeway the vehicle stalled and went into limp mode. On one occasion this nearly caused an accident as the vehicle stopped in the middle lane of a three lane highway. No warning lights displayed other than "limp mode light" when the vehicle engine goes to idle. Upon shutting vehicle off and restarting, vehicle behaves as normal with no indicator/warning lights. Took vehicle to shop to get check engine codes, vehicle shows no error codes.

Engine goes limp. Throttle body control light comes on. Ford has replaced the throttle body control twice and the problem keeps coming back. Ford will not consider any other problems and keeps wanting to replace the throttle body control. Most often happens when in reverse going up a hill. If I place the car in park and turn off the engine, then re-start, the engine is no longer limp. This problem has occurred over 6 months, multiple (>20) times.

I was pulling away from a stop sign when the car engine seemed to stall out. It was surging a bit, but would not accelerate. I was able to pull over to the curb, but could continue to feel the engine surge as I was stopping. I turned off the car and the problem seemed to resolve. I was able to drive home normally after turning off and restarting the car.

Driving freeway at 77 mph when vehicle suddenly started slowing down. Managed to get car over to shoulder of road and tried to get off ramp but wouldn't make it. No lights came on and felt like it was still running at idle. Stepped on gas but wouldn't accelerate in drive or park. Shut vehicle off and started twice before I could get response from stepping on gas. Then took off like nothing wrong. Very dangerous and lucky traffic was light. Had one other incident with car doing same thing but was sitting at traffic light.

While driving the wrench indicator came on. The engine was still running but the gas pedal didn't change the rpms. Coasted to the shoulder and turned the car off and back on. Restarted normally. The car did this six times in two weeks. Replaced the fuel injector throttle body and the problem has not returned.

First time this happened I was pull out into a 4 lane road and the car just shook and had no power. 2nd time I was going 70 on highway and the car lost all power. Almost had semi in rear end. 3rd time I was on side street at 4 way stop. Car lost all power after going. All times the wrench light came on then the engine light. Had 2 mechanics look at it and said bad throttle. This is an expensive part not cover any longer. Seen all complaints on it. Should be recalled dangerous.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The dealer was made aware of the failure and stated that without the engine warning lamp being illuminated when placed on the diagnostic machine, they were not able to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 29,000.

At highway speeds the vehicle would have a total loss of power forcing a pull over and shutting car down waiting and restarting. The maintenance symbol(wrench) would go away and car will run smooth till next occurrence. Found out that there have been electronic throttle body failures resulting in engine stall and or surge while driving. These Ford vehicles are also having multiple led tail light failures due to defect. $400 a piece for whole lens is only way to replace defective lamp.

I was traveling at a high rate of speed (70mph) when my engine began to "stall out" on me causing a rapid deceleration. I would say it stalled, but it did not 100% cutout, rather it went into the lowest limp mode on the engine. Luckily, since it was a busy time of night (approximately 6pm), I was in the right hand land and was able to pull off before being rear ended...though it would almost inevitably happened had I been in any other lane. I was near an exit and coasted slowly in the limp mode and made it to a parking lot, where I turned off my car and popped the hood to examine the issue further. The oil was within range and belts were ok. Just as I was finishing the coasting, I saw the "wrench" light illuminate. After checking the engine, I was able to re-start my car and drive home without incident. I looked up the issue online & found many others with the same issue. I ordered oem replacement parts that took about a week to arrive. Over the course of that week, the issue occurred several more times and happened more and more frequently. I avoided highways altogether for safety concerns. I contacted Ford who told me I could have it repaired at my cost at a dealership (since I was a few thousand over the powertrain warranty). I bought oem parts & did the repair myself and the issue has not happened again since. This is the exact issue listed in NHTSA action number: PE13003.

I was in the middle of making a left turn, when my engine suddenly stalled. I lost all acceleration in the middle of my turn, while oncoming traffic was approaching. My check engine light came on with code P2112. I had to pull over, shut the car completely off, and it was fine for only a few more miles. The problem is ongoing and the vehicle is not safe to drive on a highway. Intermittently, at speeds of 30 mph and higher, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled and showed signs of throttle body failure. The consumer stated all the symptoms he experienced, were consistent with the NHTSA action number PE13003. Also, the brake lights did not activate, when applied. Updated 11/05/13

While commuting to work the engine suddenly lost all power while traveling approx 50mph on rt 9A in ossining NY. Fortunately I was in thr right lane but did not have enough time or momentum to completely pull off the road. A state farm sponsored help truck arrived anf pushed me to the side. At my husband's suggestion he looked to see if leaves had clogged the intake/air filter. It did not. Then he disconnected the hose to the throttle valve and when he pushed it with the screwdriver the engine regained power. I turned around to try and meet my husband at a midway point. The engine shut down again but after restarting, it regained power. I switched cars with my husband and he sprayed the throttle valve with carburetor cleaner and headed home. The car stalled out on him but he was able to roll into a gas/convenience store in garrison NY and sprayed it again. Once home in cold spring he cleaned out the assembly as good as he could and the car worked well for the next 2 weeks. While visiting hungary for a family illness, my son used the car and reported that it began to stall out on him but unstuck? and he was able to return home. The car was brought to freedom Ford in beacon NY this morning for repair since it is not safe to drive in nyc commuter traffic.
