I was on my way back from a trip and my car stalled out multiple times. I would be going at highway speeds and it would just cut out. I was able to safely get into the service lane and restart the car with no problem, but then it would happen again. Eventually, I pulled over and waited for a tow. I did my research and found out that this is a common issue with Mercury cars in my model year due to faulty throttle body issues. Because the problem was so widespread, Ford issued an extended warranty that would cover a throttle body repair for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. Based on this information, it seemed like my car would be covered. However, after taking it to the dealership, they claimed that it would not be covered because my VIN doesn't match the lists and estimated the repair at $500-$700. This is completely crazy to me because it obviously happens to cars like mine and has been fixed by the company at no cost. I believe I should also receive that benefit. I talked to the company and have lodged a formal complaint, and I will also be sending a letter because this is just not acceptable. Stalling on a highway going 70+ is dangerous and I could have been seriously injured or even killed had I been hit.

This has happened a handful of times but it is a little scary when it does. The first time it happened was back in October 2015. I was running errands when it happened the first time. I left a store and started my car. It was hot outside so I turned AC on. While I arranged my purchases and bag on passenger seat, the car apparently died (I couldn't hear it because of AC). I turned off AC and started it again but when I began driving through parking lot, I noticed that even though I was pressing on accelerator the car was hesitating as if it wasn't getting any gas. I ended up taking the car to a mechanic friend of mine after about the third time it died and he found nothing when hooked up to diagnostics.

We were driving down a busy 4 lane highway with additional turn lanes. We were crossing over another very busy highway. Crossing through the intersection the car lost acceleration power. The car was running but going very slow and running extremely rough, like running on one cylinder. We were able to pull into a parking lot on the same side we were driving. We got into a parking space. Turned off the car and then re-started it. The car started right up and appeared to be running smooth. We drove around the parking lot for a couple of minutes. It seemed fine. We pulled out on the road and had a repeat of the same thing and were fortunate enough again to get into a condo areas parking lot. Same thing happened. We turned the car off and it ran smoothly while idling. We called a tow truck. They towed it to an auto repair shop. They ran the car, put it on a computer and it ran smooth. Cannot identify the problem.

When I got home I started searching for any problems or recalls for Mercury Milons. It said there are problems with many Fords which includes this make and model that says it has issues with the throttle body and the description of the problem emulates the same thing we are experiencing. I will be calling Ford on Monday. I hope they recognize this and fix it. I'm afraid to drive it alone let alone put my grandchildren in it who are 3 and 1.

The vehicle was going up a hill and suddenly came to a crawl. I kept pushing the gas pedal down and nothing was happening. There was no place to pull off for a few hundred feet so I proceeded to crawl and traffic was piling up behind me and trying to pass me on a 2 lane road. I was in danger of being hit in the rear end or causing cars behind me to wreck. I finally was able to pull over and cut the engine off. I waited a few seconds after calming down. It was quite unnerving to suddenly be going the speed you desired and then the car just stalled to a crawl and you have no control over the engine. I started the car again and it fired up like nothing had happened and proceeded on my trip. I was scared of what had happened and was afraid to use the air conditioner and rode in the heat (85 degree day) until I got home. I took the car to the garage the next day and they couldn't diagnose anything with it and was told to bring it back when it was acting up again.

This stalling problem is a very dangerous problem. This was the second time it happened so I was semi-alert to what was probably going to happen. I felt the car jerk while going down a hill at about 45 miles an hour and made preparations to get into the outside lane and be ready to pull off as quickly as I could get off the road. Otherwise I could have been rear-ended by someone and caused a chain reaction on a very busy stretch of road. I think this should be a recall or be covered by warranty. I'm not sure but it sounds like it is a computer type problem. There is no date estimated as to when the part is going to be available to fix my car. They have another one ordered for another vehicle for 10 days now and I was told movement on getting this part is slow. I can't feel safe in driving this vehicle very far or on a highway where the speed limit is fairly high because I might cause a traffic accident or worse yet be killed or cause injury or death to others.

I believe Ford should have a recall of all Milans with the 2.5L engine to replace the throttle body as I have read on Mercury Milan forums about several people having this problem on this vehicle. Also it is more than an annoying or inconvenience. I believe it falls into the safety issue category as I was fortunate to be on a less traveled road when this occured (the car suddenly stalling and sputtering and not wanting to run), but if I had had been on the highway I had turned off of earlier it would have been a catastrophe as I would have had the vehicles behind me pile into my rear as it went from highway speed to nothing. As it was the experience of it left me shaken as it was early morning and still dark and I had no idea what was going on with the vehicle. It is pretty sad that I purchased this 2 year old(July 2012) vehicle with only 19,000 miles on it thinking it would be a reliable vehicle and to then have to end up driving my 24 year old truck into work instead because a part on the Milan is defective from the manufacturer. Ford needs to be a responsible company and step up to the plate and recall these Milans and replace the throttle bodies.

I want to add this note. In reporting this problem on your Add a Vehicle Complaint category I put down that it was covered under the extended warranty which it was, but I also had to pay the 100 dollar deductible that the warranty requires for each incident, so I was out some of my own money. Your category selection would not allow me to put down a dollar amount along with the extended warranty coverage which makes it look like I wasn't out any money of my own, but which I was.
