2005 Mercury Monterey. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for transmission replacement the consumer stated he received a check from Ford Motor Company for $1,450 to cover the expense of replacing the transmission. However, the consumer stated he paid $ $2077.11 and would like the entire amount to be paid.

2005 Mercury Monterey. Consumer states vehicle lost complete power while driving the consumer was informed the torque converter and the input shaft were a huge problem on his vehicle and the parts were inferior. A mechanic stated, the part was made of aluminum which could not withstand the pressure in which it was loaded.

As per your website defect investigations. My 2005 Mercury Monterey I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph and all of a sudden the engine RPM rose up rapidly. I at first thought there was a problem with the cruise control. But no it was the transmission. As your investigation shows it was a stripped output shaft and the torque converter. I was driving on interstate 75 at approximately 70 mph. Without warning I heard a loud whining noise and I had no forward power. I somehow was able to steer the car to the side of the road. I required a tow and am being told that the transmission is gone, costing over $3000 to repair. I now know that numerous reports of sudden transmission failure have been made. I believe I should have been made aware of this problem.

I have a Mercury Monterey which nearly got my wife and I killed by a rear-end collision. It just all of a sudden died no power nothing just like all these other complaints of transmissions malfunctions. I am on social security and need my vehicle I stopped my daughter in law from driving it she has 4 children and her some where losing power with those children is not a good thing I will go visit the Mercury dealership this week to see what they say. I still owe 2 years of payments on this vehicle and can not afford to buy another vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2005 Mercury Monterey mini-van with 45,000 miles. It now has 47500 miles and I have been told it needs a torque converter to repair the transmission. I was driving at approx 35 miles per hour when the van completely lost forward motion. The engine was running, there wasn't any noise, service lights or fluid leakage. The car simply had no gears. We had no prior warning, the car had never had any hesitation, jerking or any signs of distress. Thankfully we had just pulled off the interstate. We pulled off the road into a parking lot where we coasted to a stop.

The torque converter went out on my 2005 Mercury Monterey van. This happened after reporting transmission issues to both hastings Ford and whitaker Lincoln Mercury several times since 8/22/2005, which was the purchase date of my van. When the torque converter went out, I was driving approximately 40 mph. Without warning, the van lost power and it seemed like I was driving in neutral. The van would not move in drive or reverse. I had to coast to the shoulder where a couple of guys then had to push the van so that it was out of harms way. After having the van towed to hastings Ford and doing a little research, I'm now finding that many other 2005 Mercury Monterey vans have experienced the same problem as my van. It was interesting and a little odd to me that the mechanic was able to diagnose the problem without having to take anything apart. This to me now indicates that Ford is well aware of the problem. I find it very disappointing that hastings Ford did not mention any of this to me before they started servicing the van. My main complaint is that I do not feel that I should have to pay for fixing this problem since I have reported and documented transmission problems several times, many of which were well within the warranty period. My other complaint is that Ford seems to be doing nothing about this potentially very dangerous problem. It was a very unsafe situation that I was in when I totally lost power. I was on a slight incline when my problem happened. I was fortunate to have enough power to coast close enough to the shoulder of the road. I hate to think if I was going highway speeds and I needed to get over multiple lanes to a shoulder or a safe part of the road.

On Feb 7, 2011, after exiting I10, I stopped my 2005 Monterey van at my grandson's home. As I restarted I backed out and switched to forward gear. As I pressed the accelerator, nothing happened. I tried all gears and same result. Checking google, I found out that this has happened to thousands of 2005 Monterey vans and Mercury/Ford has done nothing to rectify this major problem with the transmission. My dealership quoted me a price of over$2,100 to fix. I believe that this is Ford's bill and I shouldn't be responsiible for their extremely poor engineering.

On July 23th 2010, I was driving my 2005 Mercury Monterey up an incline then all of a sudden the vehicle went to a brief acceleration. I let go of the acceleration pedal, then went to accelerate again, I had no power. The engine would rev but it was not engaged to the transmission. Luckily I was a able to coast down the hill and pull off to a safe spot. I had the vehicle towed and was told the transmission had went. I had the Ford dealership install a new transmission in the vehicle. The vehicle had 55,000 miles on it. The vehicle before then showed no signs of transmission trouble. After further research I noticed there has been multiple complaints regarding the same issue.
