ALL FOUR HUBS/BEARINGS GONE OUT! REAR BEARINGS WENT OUT. THEN FOUND OUT FRONT WHERE WELL ON THE WAY SO REPLACED THEM TO KEEP FROM HAVING ANOTHER TRIP TO GARAGE.

My complaint is identical to virtually every other bearing failure involving 2002-2004 Mercury Mountaineers & Ford Explorers. One by one, ALL 4 wheel bearing/hub assemblies failed starting at the 55,000 mile range. This was from NORMAL driving, no misuse or abuse. A metal-grinding noise that makes the hair on your neck stand. My mechanic stated that had I been traveling on a highway when the 1st bearing failed, the result could have been catastrophic. Why in the world considering the excessive number of complaints concerning these part failures is this still not a "recall" item? I'm sick and tired of hearing the mechanic at the dealership say that they replace these hubs "all of the time". Counting my parents, siblings, wife's parents, and even my kids, we've purchased 9 new and 7 used Fords/Mercurys. Message to FoMoCo......thanks for respecting customer loyalty!

Over the course of 3 or 4 months every wheel bearing failed to the point of causing severe safety issues and destroying the hubs. Cost about $400 each to replace. Rendered the vehicle undriveable each time.

$300 for front bearings to be replaced and $400 for the rear. That is per wheel! This has to be done every 18 months! Most cars rarely need to have their bearings changed.
