Rear liftgate glass shattered on 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. Hinge came off and the entire glass window exploded filling entire vehicle with flying glass.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that while opening the hatch on the rear of the vehicle, it fractured and the glass fell out. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer that informed her that her VIN was not included in recall 01I010000 (visibility: Glass, side/rear). The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 127,462.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. While the vehicle was parked the contact attempted to close the windshield on the rear lift gate and it shattered. The dealer was notified and informed the contact that NHTSA recall # 01I010000, visibility glass, side/rear had already been serviced on the vehicle. Prior to the recent failure the contact had the rear windshield repaired on 4 different occasions. The dealer stated that the three years ago the windshield recall repair was satisfied. The most recent repair was made in April of 2007. The approximate current and failure mileages were 80,000.

The dealer stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA campaign id numbers 04V442000 (structure:body: Hatchback/liftgate:hinge and attachments), 01I010000 (visibility: Glass, side/rear), and 07E104000 (visibility:glass, side/rear); therefore, the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. The rear window shattered when it was lifter causing the glass and metal bar across the window to to come crashing down on my head and back. The glass caused cuts on my hands, feet and they became embedded in my skull. The metal bar caused a cut and a bruised skull.

Rear liftgate glass shattered. This is the second time this has happened in two years. I replaced the liftgate glass in 2004 after it shattered the first time. A replacement part was put onto my vehicle on 12/14/05 after a recall service. Within six months the part that was determined as defective in 2004 that was put onto my vehicle in December caused the glass to shatter again.

2002 Mountaineer stalls, transmission control assembly, main control valve, and gasket had to be replaced. The lift gate was sticking, and while closing it, the glass shattered, the glass was recalled, and was suppose to have been fixed. The oil light illuminated. The trim on the front door fell off while driving. There was a grinding noise coming from the rear wheels, it was determined that there was severe rust on the brake componets, the park brake shoes fell apart due to corrosion, the rear wheel bearing and knuckle assembly had excessive rust.

Problems with vehicle's transmission at various speeds. The engine remained slipping, jumping, and making noises, the rear window did not hold and fell on the consumers head, the steering column locks, the fuel engine read empty and the light was on, the interior coat hooks had come out of the walls, and the transmission was jumping, clunking, and slipping.
