Over the winter our Mountaineer developed rust near the rear door jam, between the door jam and the rear wheel well. My first thought was that it had paint damage from a door ding, which started the rust. After looking at the other side, though, the paint is bubbling in the same place. Definitely a design problem. We live in an area with a fair amount of snow, but is it washed regularly. It is garaged at night.
We usually keep cars for about 100,000 miles, but may trade this one sooner.

Both wheel wells are rusted out requiring both sides to need a large piece of metal cut out and welded, then primed and painted, costing about $2500.00
