Shortly after purchasing my Mountaineer the electric running board on the driver side began to make a grinding sound. Bought from a dealer in wa state and moved to wi state where the driver side stopped and the passenger side stopped extending/retracting. Moved to NJ and we had purchased the vehicle extended warranty. Began to sound like a knocking sound with little power and had towed to dealer. There they found all 8 spark plugs fouled, driver side had 3 exhaust manifold bolts loose. Passenger side had same 3 loose, but also had 2 broken off in exhaust manifold plus the manifold itself had a hairline crack. In the end, I paid almost $2,000 to have driver and passenger running board and motors replaced. The rear windshield wiper motor had gone bad and was replaced, the spark plugs and all manifold bolts (along with broken) were all removed and replaced.

Bought used in wa state and live in NJ now. After purchasse it rained one night and next morning entire center console, overhead lights were all wet inside. Upon further investigation determined leak was sunroof. Notified dealer and they had a glass specialist remove the entire assembly and thoroughly clean. Replaced seal with new one and claimed no more leakage. A few days later it rained again (wa well known for always raining) and again the leak was present. The dealer's response was now 'park your vehicle with the front end downhill. There are tiny slots that direct the water down the corner pillars and apparently clog easily. So parking with front end downhill will relieve the water before it can pool up to leak.

The contact owns a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that the all the doors failed to open when using the key fob and the power door lock switches. The contact stated that only the front driver side door could be opened manually. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the smart junction box failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,783.

While driving, dome light illuminated and driver's seat moved to farthest position back as if exiting the vehicle. This problem is happening more frequently while driving. This problem also happens when turning on headlights or moving gear selector from park to drive or reverse. It is intermittent, but happens daily. A person shorter than I, will loose contact with break and accelerator pedals. Tapping on keys may return seat to a more forward position. As an engineer, I see this as a manufacturer's safety issue that should be resolved by the manufacturer and not the customer.

(day and mileage are approximate values). 2006 Mercury Mountaineer AWD premier edition. In excess rainfall events, water leaks thru sunroof and down thru roof center lighting console. I've taken it to numerous places to have it evaluated. Upon receiving it from a used car dealer (respectable reputation) the sunroof leaked a day or two later. Took back to purchasing dealership and they removed entire sunroof assembly, cleaned and replaced all seals. The next rainstorm occurred and I was told to park downhill because there are very thin tubes and they clog easily, causing the water to pool up and leak thru, the center lighting console. I've even asked Ford and was told bring it to my local dealership for repair. Dealership says repair will be my responsibility, and also says it may not 100% repair since they would do same services the previous establishments performed (remove, clean tracks and tubes, reseal).

Truck cooling system died which caused the truck to catch fire while driving down the highway, smoke poring out, state troopers had to assist us. My daughter was scared to death and now refuses to get back in the truck even though we got a new engine. To make matters worse we spent 3000 on and engine...500 on cooling system and had the transmission reprogrammed. The truck is still have major problems and now for says it needs the transmission rebuilt or replaced. All of this is out of pocket. We cant even trade it in bc they will only give us 1/2 of what we paid for it 2 yrs ago. Nightmare and makes me sick that Ford doesn't care.
