This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mercury dealer.
The car dealer has had my vehicle in 4 times in a period of 13 weeks (three times in the first four weeks I owned the vehicle) for the same problems. In that time they had my vehicle in their possession in excess of 17 days and put over 300 miles on my vehicle. The problems that I first brought to their attention still remain today the engine/transmission rev up in RPMs and the vehicle does not go anywhere, the engine is STILL over heating as it was in the beginning, the smell of antifreeze is STILL coming through the heating vents. They first said it was a coil pack now they say head gasket, the fact remains the same symptoms remain, nothing was ever fixed and this vehicle has not and does not run properly. Now they tell me it’s been too long and my warrantee is up. How can I be out of warrantee when it still has officially started. IT’S STILL NOT FIXED!!!! Can you say Lemon?

Transmission surges when you take off and sometimes feels like it sticks. Have always had all preventative maintenance done including transmission flush. Only has 59000 miles on it and I barely made it home today because the car would not change gears! Warranty just expired!

Vehicle jerks when you start to take off. We just got the vehicle this weekend and picked it up on Monday.

The transmission surges regularly when climbing a hill or steep grade. I work in an area that is mountainous and this problem is concerning and annoying. It also jerks during down shifting when coming to a stop. While these two issues are an issue, my greatest concerns are that the transmission has "popped" into reverse twice while in park. When placed in park, the transmission also will roll forward or backward until it "catches" and locks into place. This SUV only has 6300 miles so far, and I am concerned as to how the transmission will perform after the warranty has expired.

As with others that commented I took care of my car, did everything. Oil changes, tire rotations, made sure the transmission was taken care of, everything one should do to make sure the car was in top shape. Than the transmission starter slipping, having trouble with the shifting into the next gear. Had to have it replaced or end up going off the side of a mountain, found out how much trouble I was in when it was checked out by more than one repair shop. Same answer, get it fixed now, so I did, was over $3,500.00.
