I purchased the used 2007 Mercury Mountaineer vehicle for my wife to drive because of its safety ratings. When I test drove the car I accidentally touched the key in the ignition. The interior lights came on and the drivers seat moved back away from the steering wheel. I am 6 ft tall and I was still able to touch the breaks but just barely. If a shorter person was driving such as my wife I think she would not be able to hit the brakes. Not to mention possibly panicking because you are not expecting it to happen.
I think this is a very serious dangerous flaw in this vehicle. The problem seems to be related to the Easy Exit Feature. I can jiggle the key in the ignition and get this to happen on a regular basis. I showed the used car dealer an they agreed to change the keys and or the lock cylinder. On this vehicle you can disable the Easy Exit feature to prevent the seat from moving back. This is a quick fix. Check you manual on how to turn this feature off. I cannot believe this has not been recalled by Ford. Shame on them for ignoring this problem.
Are they going to wait for someone to get killed and then face a lawsuit and major recall? To me this is worse than the problem with the cars that the engine turns off while driving that was recalled. At least you can still hit the breaks.

My 2007 mercury mountaineer driver's seat moves while driving. The car hits a bump and the seat automatically moves. Caused my wife to almost crash on interstate at 70 mph. She is short so when the seat moved back she could not reach the pedals .until seat was moved back by adjusting controls. Keeps happening.

This recently happened to me while driving my husbands SUV, it reminded me that it happened before while driving two years ago too. I was going about 70 when the seat just happened to move backwards. I am taller in stature so I was able to keep hold of the wheel but it was scary.
Recently I wasn't going as fast but it moved backwards and stopped. A bit later it began again but this time it came back forward and then backward again. I pulled over and turned the car off and started it up again and found it did not do it again in that trip. I have since driven again and it moved only once on it's own.
I did note that I had the speed control on when it did this. I am thinking the wires are crossing or heating up???? I am not using the speed control anymore. Does it need new fuses? My husband says this never has happened to him.
