Mountaineer

  • 50,000 miles
Transmission jerks ahead while traveling on long distances and short. It has gotten worse. When I apply gas and use the passing gear to accelerate it shakes violently. Going in and out of neutral it would seem. Vehicle is 2007 53,000 miles. Currently at dealer with transmission specialist. They are talking to Ford hq for direction and have tried unsuccessfully to fix it so far. They are now looking at megatronics. Internet blogs show this is very common in Ford SUV's and not a new problem but overlooked for sure.

Mountaineer

  • 19,000 miles
Transmission hard downshift when stopping or in slow traffic. Vehicle surges almost "leaps" forward while at a stop when foot taken off of brake pedal. Almost hit vehicle in front. Another Mountaineer owner refers to it as a "bump stop". this occurs daily although not every time the vehicle stops or slows. The is very unnerving in stop & go traffic as you have to keep your foot on the brake and leave a large space between the vehicle in front to avoid rear ending the other vehicle. Took vehicle to aamco as our Ford dealership is deplorable, aamco could not detect any defects. Vehicle has 19,000 miles and is still under factory warranty.

Mountaineer 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,800 miles
Transmission jukes ahead while traveling on long distances and short. When I let off of brake pedal it lounges forward. It has gotten worse in 2months time. I brought it to the dealer which in turn told me I must wait for a recall per Ford Motor Co. I feel this is nonsense being this matter is getting worse!!! what, I have to wait for my vehicle to die before I can get something done about it?!!! bullcrap! thanks teresa

Mountaineer 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. The transmission made noises when downshifting at 15 mph or when starting the vehicle. The dealer reprogrammed the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle home, but the failure worsened. The transmission continued to slip. She returned to the dealer and left the vehicle there for a few days. A new computer part was placed in the vehicle, but the failure still persists. There is no repair for the failure. The failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 9,500.
