I bought this SUV used and 2 months after I bought it it began to jerk forward really hard when I put it in reverse! The transmission slips when I accelerate and also jerks forward when I try going after coming to a stop . I took it to a transmission shop and they didn't find a problem ! It's really scary and I am just waiting to hit something someday !

Experiencing several 'common problems' within the first month of owning my 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. Cracked radiator causing it to overheat daily. Replaced the radiator and some transmission fluid spilled out, appearing and smelling burnt. Shortly after, transmission problems occurred and got the transmission fluid changed, but the problems continued again after three days. The car bounces hard while idling, transmission slips, fails to shift up when it should, the vehicle will jerk if the brake isn't pushed in, and the RPM's are way above the normal - sometimes up to 2000-2500 at only 25 mph. The thermostat housing is corroded and leaking over, was told to get replaced soon. Mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the transmission but pointed out corrosion on the thermostat housing and a vacuum leak. Just wondering if that may be the problem
