: the contact stated while driving various speeds, a gas smell was noticed due to a gas leak. The vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined a gas leak in the filler hose was present. There was a NHTSA recall, # 95V232000, regarding the gas tank filler hose and cap. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Request for reimbursement for replacement of gas tank since it is a product of a defect. Gas station attendant was fueling the vehicle when a large puddle of gas leaked form under the vehicle. Vehicle was taken to the mechanic who stated it should be covered by Ford. Prior to this incident, the gas tank kept shutting off automatically and the attendant had to pump it slowly to keep it from shutting off while being filled. Consumer was told by the dealership the vehicle would be looked over and it was dependent upon the mileage and condition of the vehicle. Consumer contacted the mechanic and relayed the info. From the dealership. Mechanic stated his computer showed a recall for the fuel tank and should be covered. Consumer again contacted another Ford dealership who stated there was no recall. Mechanic did repair vehicle.

Fuel tank was replaced twice due to recalls 94S97 and 95S30, on 12-Jul-2001, dealer stated fuel tank needed to be replaced again, however this time at consumers expense, consumer is requesting reimbursement for the repair costs and rental car expenses.
