Mercury came out with their new slogan, "Opening New Doors", early last year (06) right about the time I found myself driving to work and shocked at seeing the driver's door swing wide open, as I went around a turn. In my 25 minute commute in sub freezing temps, the door would refuse to latch at all, occasionally latching by the time I arrived at work that month. After two times, I drove to the local Ford Dealer where we'd purchased it used, and the service manager said he could not help me, but I persisted and a mechanic came out and poked a lever in the door latch with a large screwdriver, saying he didn't have a remedy. I asked if they had a Technical Service Bulletin about it, they said no. (that's a precursor to a recall). I ended up keeping a couple of motorcycle tie-downs in the car with me and tied one door handle to the other, across my lap. The door stayed mostly shut, thought plenty of cold air came in but at least my car wouldnt be poking another one in transit. Seat belts, a long time habit, were even more appreciated. I avoided using the car part of the time, if temps were low, and finally Spring sort of arrived. We have had extremely mild temps till this week, and I am dreading the drives all over again. (Expletive and a half!) "Mercury, Opening New Doors", INDEED !
