The power steering in the consumer's 2001 Mercury Sable station wagon failed. The consumer opened the hood of the vehicle and found that the belt was loose and that the spring loaded belt idler pulley was hanging in parts on the engine block. It was determined that the pulley assembly could not be repaired. The consumer requested that Ford reimburse him for the cost of replacing the defective spring loaded idler pulley assembly.
