This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mercury dealer.
Knocking noise when engine is at operating temp. Dealer says it's due to a reinforced polymeric intake manifold which does not muffle injector noise. This is a Duratec engine. Does anyone else have this problem? I called Mercury with the problem but they only refererred me to the Dealer instead of analyzing the problem or giving me the technical reason and possible fix regarding the problem.

Over the course of a few hours the motor went from a slight tick to a horrid metal grinding and loud knock. Not two miles after it escalated the middle cylinder right bank(facing the firewall) exploded at the top of the cylinder wall causing the firewall and wire harness ect.. To catch fire resulting in a total loss of the vehicle by the time the fire truck arrived. Had i have had a fire extinguisher i may have been able to save it however it would still have been very unlikely due to the lack of space between the top end and firewall.
