This is a cheap and easy problem to fix, but a safety issue if you're driving around with no brake lights. The electrical switch located at the brake pedal breaks (it's plastic), then your brake lights will not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. Replace this switch and your brake lights will work again. Make sure to check for burned out brake light bulbs before replacing this switch.
