Villager GS 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 202,500 miles

The speed sensor in my van works intermittently, causing the speedometer to fluctuate wildly as I drive down the road. The needle on the speedometer will give my correct reading and then suddenly drop to "0 mph" for a few seconds. It will then return to my actual speed, flutter and drop back to 0 for 30 seconds or more.

Losing my speedometer isn't a huge deal, I usually travel with a GPS and that gives me a pretty accurate reading. But the speed sensor in most vehicles also works with the transmission to determine shift points and with the ABS to prevent skidding while braking, and that's what worries me most. If those things start to fail I will need to have the sensor replaced, which should run about $100 + labor.
