Villager 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 93,000 miles
Purchased vehicle one week ago, since then whenever I am going from park to drive the vehicle accelerates on its own revving the engine at 5,000 rpms making it very hard to stop vehicle while applying the brakes. You have to shut vehicle off and then put it in park, then try it again. Sometimes it works and other times its worse!!! this vehicle is very unsafe and should be taken off the streets, or fixed properly by the manufacturer!!! I am very scared to drive this vehicle with my kids in it, for we might have an accident. This has happened everyday since we purchased this vehicle!!!!

: the contact stated the accelerator pedal sticks. The pedal must be depressed hard in order to release. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times. The first two times the dealer was unable to locate the source of the problem. The last time the dealer determined the throttle needed to be replaced.

The throttle sticks in the closed position, requiring an inordinate amount of force on the accelerator pedal to open the throttle. Once sufficient force is applied to overcome the resistance, the vehicle will lunge forward unexpectedly, and has the potential to cause damage or injury. This problem has supposedly been corrected by the dealer cleaning the throttle body assembly, at my expense. However, based on the reports from other complainants, the problem is likely to recur and be a continual hazard.

Almost every time I drive the van, the accelerator has at least once incident when it is non-responsive. I have to hit the accelerator with my foot hard to get the car to move. If the car does respond then we accelerate rapidly. Sometimes it takes more than one depression on the accelerator to get action. If a car is coming toward me I cannot rapidly avoid an accident. I cannot depend on the car to perform. This is a definite hazzard which needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. This is a 1999 Mercury Villager van.

Accelerator sticks. This is the 2nd time we have encountered this problem. The first time was within the 36K warranty and had it covered. Cannot remember if they replaced throttle body or just cleaned. It occurred again.. this time @ 80K. I had them replace the throttle body (dealer recommendation for $459.82). I have owned a total of 4 Villagers and this is the first time I have ever encountered anything like this. It is a hazard because you have to tap the pedal hard to get it to go. When tapping hard there is the possibility of hitting another car. As far as I am concerned this is a danger. I notice that many people have complained about this same issue. I cannot understand why Ford motor is not coming up with a solution or covering the cost on this issue?

Gas pedal sticks. You have to actually stomp on the accelerator to get it to move. Has done this since I have owned the vehicle. Dealer has cleaned throttle cable 3 times. Indicates it needs new throttle assembly. Techs were advised (per my dealer) from Ford to only clean throttle assembly when consumer complained. Now after many miles and no warranty they suggest changing the complete assembly at my cost. I understand that Ohio residents have a class action suit for this. How do all other owners of these vehicles from other states particpate in making the manufacturer responsible for this defect?

In the newspaper today I read about sticking accelerator pedal, which I have experienced after about 1 year of ownership. I may have received a recall, but I don't remember. However, the problem continues and creates a dangerous situation because the pedal will not always go down when needed. His is an intermittent problem. Is there any information where Mercury will fix this problem?

Accelerator sticks in an unpredictable manner that can cause the vehicle to lurch forward. The vehcile is especially difficult to control in wet or icy conditions. It appears I will need to have the throttle body cleaned. This vehicle has the same engine and drive train as the Nissan quest which had a recall for this repair. The dealer was contacted (they sell both Nissan & Mercury vehicles) and he indicated the recall was only for the quest.

The gas pedal sticks; I have taken it to the dealer on several occassions and they say it is a problem with this car. They sprayed the butterfly valve with WD40 and unstick it. It only lasts a couple of months. Then back to the dealer.

Gas pedal sticks on my 1999 Mercury Villager and is very unsafe. I Transport my three children every day in this van. I thought I purchased a great family vehicle but it seems just like many of the other complaints on this site my pedal started to stick after just hitting the 30,000 mile mark. Coincidence"?? I don't think so..... just had my van in for thousands of dollars of service and now this occurs and I am told it's going to cost me at least $800 to repair the throttle on my 5 yr old van with only 34,000 miles on it. How is this possible??"
