Had the power steering pump replaced when I first purchased the car in July/August of 2011 because it went out. Then, just this week the power steering pump went out AGAIN...it's been a little over a year. Since Mini doesn't use a typical pully-style power steering pump, it ended up costing me right around $400 for a re-manufactured pump. This is a problem with EVERY MINI, yet Mini refuses to file a recall on their faulty pumps. The design of the pump/ location of the pump is terrible. A fan the size of the pump is that of a computer and there is no shield whatsoever to protect it from debris that goes under the car. The pump jiggles around and the electronic parts inside eventually just stop working. I understand every car has their issue, but this is ridiculous. I will never buy mini cooper again.
