I had taken my car in to the shop on December 31st, for engine performance issues and concerns about an oil leak. They repaired a gasket, did an oil change and filter change (for low mileage oil change). All of this cost just under 800 dollars. A month and a half later, engine light came on, car wouldn't go above 20 miles per hour...they stated it was due to low mileage commutes, and condensation taking place causing oil to become "milky"...and that it is a glitch with this model (and the 2009 model).

No acknowledgement that they should have said something in December, or seen this issue when working on the engine. They gave a "discount" of a $100 so I actually paid $366, not $470, but truly.

Corporate also acknowledged this rare glitch...they said there is no way to warn others, since it is so rare. They won't consider assisting more. In other words, they have yet to share how to prevent this via how many miles must be driven, or how long the engine should warm up before being driven.

Each time it happens, they view it as driver "error" not the glitch that they have actually acknowledged since it is no longer under warranty.

The problem is essentially a short piece of rubber tube between the air filter and the throttle body. In cold weather (we have a lot in Ottawa), ice collects and when the engine heats up, melts and drips into the throttle body where it freezes again making the throttle mostly inoperative. BMW has redesigned this component to have a drain. I will be asking them for compensation for this design fault in the 2007 model.
