MINICooper base model with 90K miles has seat belt and air bag warning lights illuminated. Warning lights started intermittently going on and off and now stay illuminated continously when ignition is on. No vehicle accidents or incidents to cause this problem.

Our vehicle has the airbag light on and I am am very concerned with the safety of our family. After researching this issue, there are many MINIowners that are having the same problem which leads me to believe that this is deeper than an isolated issue on my vehicle. I also found out that this has been an issues that was converted into a recall for several years before. MINIshould considered doing an investigation and extending the recall to other year models including my 2012.

The passenger side seat mat sensor, that triggers the airbag in an accident (I understand), has failed. MINIof charleston SC (close to where I live) inform me that it will take 3-6 months to get a replacement.
