My air bag light has been lit for a few weeks. Went to get problem fixed and get car inspected. The facility informs me that the passenger side OC3 mat sensor needed replacing, there is no recall, and my car is no longer under warranty. The cost to replace is going to be $1,800. After looking online at various forums, I have discovered many Mini owners who are experiencing the same problem. Many are bypassing, which does not solve the problem. ALL are unhappy. There are many instances of Mini Coopers built before and after with the same issue., but have recall notices.
and: MY CAR WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION......
Update from Nov 16, 2015: Talked to BMW USA representative who suggested me to take the Air bag out and place a "Air Bag does not work sign" on the dash to pass inspection.... If I cannnot pay the exorbitant cost.
