Mirage 1.2L 3-cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 75,000 miles

The car started violently shaking and then cut out like when you let a clutch out on a manual, only it's an automatic transmission. It left me stranded in the middle of a busy highway in the dark.

We had it towed home. We were told by the local transmission shops that Mitsubichi puts in experimental transmissions into their cheap cars (CVT transmission in ours) and then puts a proprietary restriction on getting the repair manual. You have to go to their dealership to get it fixed. We ended up towing it to a dealership yesterday. This was their assessment:

Bad Torque Converter - $3600 Labor - $2000 Total Cost - $5600 My 6 year-old car with 75,000 miles is TOTALED! IT COSTS MORE TO FIX THAN THE CAR IS WORTH. Heartbreaking and I will NEVER buy a Mitsubishi EVER again.
