Low tire pressure alert came on, as I went to put air in tire, sudden "pop" and tire was flat in seconds! Spare mounted and off to dealer. At the cost of $225.00 per "sensor", 2 were replaced. (2nd done as I was told it was about to "go". This is a 2009 Outlander with 56,000 miles. I just had the tires rotated in October AT THE DEALERSHIP. The 5 year warranty was "up" October 15, 2014! I feel it was the Mitsubishi dealership or Mitsubishi responsibility to replace the "valve and seal" at the 5 year check done in October... Since this was not done then they should have picked up the cost of the sensors when they failed last week.
Question: Is this a product defect? Should this be covered under my warranty? I still have 2 more sensors to replace! How many more cases like this are there?

Tire pressure Sensor valve stem rotted out because it is made of aluminum. Cost a significant amount to replace it since the dealer is the only place that can register new pressure sensors on the Outlander. Tire shops are dumbfounded that the new sensor cannot be registered since they apparently do it all the time on other vehicles. This one issue is causing me to never buy another Mitsubishi. The dealer charged over $300 now to replace one valve. Highway robbery. Replacing the TPS sensor valve has been an ongoing problem over and over for this car. It has cost me the most $$$ of any issue with this car. I actually have been driving it with a regular valve stem with the warning light on. Any suggestions to get it replaced cheaply would be appreciated.
