Outlander SE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

My Outlander was pre-owned. I am the 3rd owner. Within one or 2 car washes of owning this vehicle I noticed new scratches. My wife mainly uses the car and I thought she had brushed against trees or something. Not the case. long rides on the road would prove the Outlander was a magnet for chips and scratches. Scratches from the car wash! unreal. 10k miles plus later and I need to try and fill a lot of hood chips. Great car, bad paint.

Outlander SEL

  • CVT transmission
  • 4,000 miles

My son and Bought 2016 AWD Outlanders at the same time. Both have abnormal and excessive paint chips on the hood and pillars (he will probably post is own with photos). It is important to note that while we bought at same dealership in FL, he lives in MO and I live in MA.

I have owned Porsches, Lexus, Jags, Saabs, Volvos and everything American ( I love cars and am quite knowledgeable-- have even paint-metered a few). I have taken several to 100K and must say that I have NEVER EVER had so many chips on my hood when trading in 5 year old vehicles with 5X the mileage my Mitsu and my son's Mitsu have on them.

I have had the vehicle looked at by reputable, upscale body and repair shops and several non-Mits dealers. All say the paint is "soft and was never cured correctly". If you Google this issue yo will find growing comments online. I have contacted the regional rep at Mitsu and sent pix of BOTH cars. He gave me no credit for being knowledgeable about cars, having done a fair amount of due dilegence on the issue and simly stated "rock chips are not covered". THis is not a rock problem (I have not changed my driving habits) but is a FACTORY PAINT FLAW. Needless to say, Mitsu will not be quick to acknoweldge.

Know that I want to be a Mitsu brand maven....owned a Montero when they were real trucks, like the differentiation it brings to an "all Outback world", like the storage space, mileage, AWD options and even become used to the rubber banded tranny. But everytime I drive my car, I get another chip. The dealer sold me a paint stick (I'm getting good with it, actually) but paint stick repairs still are visible once cured (know that I am meticulous about maintaining and cleaning my car).

So. If you buy one, have dealer acknowledge problem on P&S agreement and be sure to invest in bra / wind deflector. Can you say "Class Action/". My work is just beginning.

Outlander SE 2.4L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 2,000 miles

Bought the vehicle brand new in January 2017. Right from the start noticed small chips appearing on the hood and front of the vehicle. To me it seems like the paint is really thin so any little thing that hits it will leave a mark.

Outlander GT 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,175 miles

I purchased a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander GT SAWC brand new. I live in the citywith a minor comute but after just 2 months of ownership the hood started to show an alarming number chips in the paint. For a vehicle with 3,500km (2,200miles) this should not even be an issue. I now have 19,000km (11,800miles) and the issue is just getting worse. There are chips all over the hood, some have become quite large and a major eye sore for a car enthusiast. In addition the paint scratches very easily. I have minor scratches on all sides of the SUV. Being that this is my second New Car purchase and have owned many used vehicles, this Mitsubishi Outlander has more scratches and chips in the paint then any vehicle i have owned. Mitsubishi needs to address their paint/clearcoat issues.
