Mitsubishi had a good CVT trans, but in 2015. They got a bright idea to make the transmission more efficient. Well it maybe a bit more, but the performance has a lot to be desired. So now I have 7600 miles and await a fix. Not good. The shop I'm using said Mitsubishi replaced 2 or 3 transmissions and the problem still exists. So that supports the software issue. Mitsubishi wants data downloaded and sent to them. That means the dealer has to keep my Outlander for days to try to make it do the issues. They had it for a week, but It wouldn't repeat the problem.I went on a drive with the shop manager for 30 min's and we couldn't make it act up. Since I have had it back, it was acting up yesterday many times. I'm not happy!

THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING !! I'M BESIDE MYSELF WITH SADNESS DISAPPOINTMENT!!
Winter of 2018 in January my oldest daughter was hit broadside by a truck, thank the Lord she wasn't hurt badly. HOWEVER my 2010 V6 AWD Hyundai Santa Fe (which we all surprisingly LOVED driving) was TOTALED by insurance. We actually where able to drive it safely an hour north to turn it in. It wasn't pretty, it was a hard passenger side hit smack in the middle of the doors, but it was still quite drive-able, actually a testament to the solid construction of the Santa Fe.
Insurance wasn't going be enough to replace what we had so I had to dip into what little savings I had in order to get a replacement vehicle. I ended up dipping a little deeper than I wanted to buy a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport w/ a 2.4L with just under 44k miles on it for 13k, I UNFORTUNATELY only did a small amount of "on the spot research" with my phone, partially because it has factory warranty until 60k, AND I NEEDED A CAR ASAP!
The buying experience at this dealership was bad enough (UGH, BARF) but it was over so that was GOOD! Shortly after my purchase and in the midst of rearranging my future savings plans I experienced the first of "THE SHUDDER" or WHATEVER THE &^%$ THEY CALL IT!
It first happened as I was attempting to turn left across two lanes of oncoming traffic from a complete stop, a turn I have made a million times in our Hyundai, it's a four way stop light on a slight hill/incline. I start my turn, giving a little pedal to get moving, then a little more to go BUT IT DIDN'T GO ! It did whatever THEY CALL IT!..... I CALL IT FREAKING DANGEROUS!!!
The hesitation wasn't as long as it felt BUT IT WAS LONG ENOUGH TO SCARE THE LIVING SH*T OUT OF ME!! I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN!!!! THAT"S WHAT WAS ON MY MIND IN THAT MOMENT, DURING THAT... "SHUDDER"!? How about a SPASTIC UNPREDICTABLE FAILURE OF ALL FORWARD MOVING POWER DURING START STOP ACCELERATION!! That "shudder" could have cost me my life NO JOKE, traffic was heavy.
No one wants to drive the "new car" and I found and still find myself driving HER '08 Sonata with a million miles on it that still works FINE rather than drive mine. UGH
I parked it in the drive and stewed over what I would do, I did NOT want to take it back to the (Authorized) Mitsubishi dealership in Akron Ohio I bought it from as we had a bad overall PUSHY sales person, who seemed offended that we asked them to make a second key for the vehicle when we bought it (looked at us like we where trying to steal something from him? OH GOD NOT A SECOND KEY! Anyway, it is STILL to this day under factory warranty, about 5k until it ends.
I started intermittently driving it again, focusing harder now and noticing all the smaller "shutters" it does it pretty much every time I start accelerating from a stop, worse when going up hills of course. THEN low and behold a TRANSMISSION SERVICE light/message came on? I didn't know cars had transmission issue sensor warning lights so I thought OKAY time to get it in SOMEWHERE, then almost as soon as it popped up IT WENT AWAY! The trans light went out followed by a brief visit from the check engine light/msg. I found a dealer in Canton Ohio, He was happy to help, I explained the entire ordeal minus the personal history with the car, and told him about the msgs coming on and going off.
He was happy to help because as he explained to me "we keep this CVT in stock" Mitsubishi knows about the issue, we'll take a look at it and get you a rental car if we need to keep it. COOL!!!!! I thought, the computer stores the codes, they'll figure it out and get it fixed! SORRY..."there where no codes stored in the history, but that happens" he said. Our mech drove it several times and although he stated the mech DID feel the issue I described, it WAS NOT ENOUGH PROOF FOR MITSUBISHI TO FIX IT...YET. He said if it where up to them they would just replace it, knowing it is going to happen BUT MITSUBISHI WANTS SOME KIND OF PARTICULAR DIAGNOSTIC EVIDENCE....WHAT LIKE BLOOD ON MY WINDSHIELD??
The tech seemed to think it wouldn't be long before it failed or posted another code it wont keep! I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE IT LIKE THIS, The failure happens frequently, it's honestly a constant shuddering in the low "gears" starting from a stop, as if first gear is trashed and sometimes just straight disappears while in use. I feel like throwing up over the entire year long ordeal and I STILL HAVE NO SOLUTION IN SITE!
Did he update the cvt programing?...IDK but I read that was a thing. What did the diagnostics report about the CVT? He didn't say, he only said it wasn't enough "yet" to warrant replacement with Mitsubishi. UGH...Now I feel like they are trying to run out the clock on my warranty, they aren't, but of course it feels that way. I truly feel like he wants to replace it but either his hands are tied, or I'm a complete FN FOOL FOR NOT RESEARCHING THIS VEHICLE IN DETAIL BEFORE ,,,, OH GOD!!! ALL THAT MONEY!!! TIME!!! YEARS OF SAVINGS!!!
