I purchased a 2006 Nissan 350 Z in 2009 with a clean title and was excited about the purchase initially however, to my dismay I began noticing the car was consuming oil at an unusual rate. This first symptom I observed was a rattling noise originating from under the hood. I then checked all my fluids and noticed that the motor oil dipstick was not registering oil, I then proceeded to correct the oil level. I noticed that about three (3) months later the rattling noise return and upon checking the car was without oil again. I have noticed that it has became necessary for me to refill the engine with motor oil roughly every three (3) months. I conducted some research online whereby it was discovered that 2006 Nissan 350 Z's where synonymous with mysteriously consuming oil. I have contacted Nissan of North America where I was giving the run around. I am asking NHTSA to assist in whatever way possible to have the oil consumption issue with 2006 Nissan 350 Z's remedied, thanks.

Oil consumption, 350Z engine blown, in less then a year. While going to work on a complete stop at a red light, engine blows and car gets on fire underneath, lucky there was a gas-station next to me to borrow an extinguisher... police came to help a little later, and said I couldn't file a report. Called insurance, and said they would not cover it, called Nissan and they didn't even cover my rental while they inspected the car for over 3 months... they wanted 6K for new engine, after blaming me, telling me "this car was not build to be pushed, you drive it slow"... this forced me to let the car into voluntary repossesion and damage my credit, until this day they are still charging me for the leftover fees... later I found out that this was a really common problem and there is a lot of people that still have not gotten this resolved...beware. My 3rd Nissan, and what a disappointment, we've had about 10 Nissan in the family, but no more Nissan for us.

Oil consumption. I have a 2006 350Z with 22K miles on and at my last oil change I noticed about 1.5 quart oil consumption in less than 3000 miles. I tried regular and synthetic oil and seems to be the same issue. Engine is making a funny noise always. Noise is like lifter -type sound. It goes off after 4000 rpms and get worst when driving up hill.

I own a 2006 Nissan 350Z coupe that consumes entirely too much oil. I regularly change the oil myself every 3000 miles, yet in between changes the vehicle consumes anywhere from 2 to 4 quarts. It appears that many consumers with this particular vehicle year and model have had the same problem. I wanted to bring this issue to your attention because I'm sure many other consumers have had this issue.

Severe oil consumption 1qt ever 3 to 5 hundred miles. I took the vehicle to the dealer I bought it from in early 2007 with an engine noise. They could not hear it. They took my vehicle on 2 different times and put over 500 miles on it. With no repair. This vehicle has 76,000 miles on it now and is out of warranty. At the time I was told there where no tsb's and if the engine failed they would cover it. I have just found the tsb ntb07-088B regarding this issue. This vehicle was purchased new from brown and brown Nissan in mesa AZ by me. It is a 2006 Nissan 350Z enthusiast with a 6 spd manual trans.

My 2006 Nissan 350Z was purchased with 21,000 miles in Aug of 2007 and I noticed the engine was consuming alot of oil. I took it into Nissan of downtown la and they advised me that my year and model has this issue and ordered a new engine. In Nov of 2007 I called Nissan to complain that I had not got a new engine as yet and they advised me that a rep would contact me. After speaking with the rep (rikki) I got my new engine within a week and it was installed. But the car was not running properly and was very sluggish. After 3 visits to the dealership they looked into the matter and advised me that they made an error when they installed it. The Nissan rep rikki promised that I would get 2000 for my troubles. Now I get no return calls or anything. This is not safe! Nissan should not be selling cars with engine issues and when they do repair it, it should be done properly!

I bought a 2006 Nissan 350Z. One morning after about 4,000 miles of mostly highway driving, I heard a strange sound coming from under the hood that sounded like valve tapping. It got louder and louder as the engine got warmer. I recognized the sound from an old work van that I used to have before the engine blew due to it having no oil. Sure enough, the crankcase was empty. There was no oil and the engine took a full 5 quarts of oil. There are no external oil leaks on the engine. I found out that the Nissan "revup" engines in the 2006 350Z have an oil consumption problem. I took the car to a Nissan dealership, where, after an oil consumption test, informed me that burning 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles is normal. Nissan is aware of the problem and has issued a tsb. They need to do a recall, an engine seizing can lead to an accident and kill people. Thanks for listening.
