I currently own a 2006 Nissan 350Z w/ manual transmission, that has a major oil consumption issue. The original engine was losing oil at a rate of 1 quart per 1,000 miles. Nissan Corp. Agreed to replace the engine, with what they said was the counter measure fix to the issue. Now, the new replacement engine is experiencing the same issue. I have less than 4K miles on the new engine, and the dealership (john elway Nissan in riverside), confirmed the engine is experiencing the same oil loss problem. Nissan Corp. Has released a tsb on this issue, however the resolution they provide (replace with counter measure engine), is not a fix. Thousands have been affected by this matter, and Nissan Corp. Should be held responsible for their deceit. This issue also affects other years and models (I.e. infinity G35 coupe), with the same engine.

I noticed my 2006 350Z was using small amounts of oil between oil changes. Around 21,000 miles I saw a dramatic increase in oil usage. More than 1 quart low at only 1900 miles into my oil change. I have been working with dealer to show oil consumption and it has increased as time has gone on. This will result in decreased value of my car as the word gets out to the general public. I will not be able to get a fair trade in value or even sale my auto once the knowledge of oil usage is public. The dealer keeps telling me that they will replace the engine, but has failed to do so or even give me a date for the replacement. I feel they are downplaying my situation in the hopes that I will just go away. Nissan was aware of this issue in mid 2005. I purchased my car in mid 2006. I feel this should have been exposed to me at the time of purchase.

I purchased a 2006 Nissan 350Z manual 6 speed. After several thousand miles, the car started to burn an excessive amount of oil. I was told that this was normal. I stated that this was a new car and new cars do not burn oil. Nissan consumer relations was contacted and after almost a year and with many threats to hire an attorney and sue for consumer fraud, Nissan finally agreed to replace the engine. I have 3,000 miles on the new engine, and even though it is not consuming oil as before, it is still burning some, which is not normal. This has created a situation where I need to carry oil with me constantly in case the oil level goes low and I have to replace burned oil. This could result in a dangerous situation if I need to stop on a freeway or in heavy traffic.

My husband and I purchased a new Nissan 350Z in May 2006, and had since then multiple problems with the engine consuming oil. After multiple attempts for repair and no solution we sought the advise of a lemon law attorney. Since this time we have encountered issues with the attorney making contact with Nissan's attorney there seemed to be a problem with people returning phone calls, and nothing got resolved. Do you have any suggestion on how to resolve this problem.

  • 2,300 miles
Purchased a new Nissan 350Z 2006 model year with the rev-up enginein June 2006. At 2300 miles, August 2006-check engine light came on and dealer had to replace over 2quarts of oil. Asked to return at 500 mile intervals for checks, fist 500miles oil indicates less than half on the high to low mark on the dipstick. 1000 miles, more than 1quart added to engine. 1500 miles, less than 1/2 on the dipstick. 2000 miles, added over 1quart of oil and now started 'consumption' test. Filed for repurchase-and received response from Nissan that 'some' oil consumption was normal. Filed for state lemon law and now awaiting arbitration.
