370Z Nismo 3.7L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 31,000 miles

The NISMO trim is supposed to be more track oriented version of the vehicle; however, the vehicle exhibits fuel starvation problem in right hand turns on the track. I would have to run with a full tank each time and even then, the problem still exists after a few laps (10-15 minutes into a 20-minute session). It occurs even with the fuel gauge showing over 90% fuel in the tank.

It seems the fuel pick up is on the right side of the car and during a sustain, high speed right hand turn, the fuel gets shifted to the driver side and causes the engine to starve for fuel. When this happens, the car will stutter for a second while waiting the fuel pickup to get gas to the engine. The whole sequence takes about 2-3 seconds and the car resumes normal operation.

This can be dangerous as it would happen at the exit of the turn where everyone would normally get on the gas to accelerate. If there is someone close behind you, they could very easily run right into to you because no one expects you to slow down at that point on the track (especially without the brake lights coming on).

This is a poor design by Nissan that decreases the enjoyment factor of a otherwise capable vehicle.
