Every time the vehicle idles in drive, at a stoplight for example, the revs never stay consistent. The tachometer is all over the place between 500-1000rpm, and sometimes the engine almost stalls when it goes below 500rpm. No mechanic or Nissan dealer can tell me what the problem is, and it's certainly annoying!

I have a 99 altima that idles really rough.I did a tune up and i checked the distributor for oil and nothing. The car starts right up, just when in idle it seems to shake like if it could be an air leak.I checked for vacuum leaks and nothing. They say change gasket to the manifold or it could be the MAF sensor or a new distributor.I'm not sure on either of these, I just want the annoying shaking and rough idling to stop and an actual solution not a what if. Please help, any advice that will actually WORK would be great especially since my pockets don't go really deep either.
