problem #2

Altima 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,460 miles

Has extreme front suspension noise, (i.e: loud knocking, banging sound) especially on right front side over rough or very uneven surfaces. If hit a pothole it sounds like front end is coming apart. I have looked into it online and strongly suspect from evidence seen that the transverse link clearance is out of spec, extremely, due to not being properly designed or installed, or both at outset of vehicle production. It has caused the shaft in the strut to be loose. Noise being heard is in all likelihood the strut, that is making it.

I have not seen any unusual wear on tires, and when bounce front end manually, seems stiff and does not have extreme travel up and down when releasing pressure on it.(like bad struts,or shocks would indicate). It is only heard when driving as mentioned before in earlier comments. I have checked for recalls and have seen none listed, and also do not see a specific TSB for it, but saw comments online indicating there is one, but not found. So my interpretation is: transverse link bushing was installed out of spec, or wears to out of spec during driving, putting undue stress on the strut, causing the failure and noise being heard.

The cars is a nice car but, I cant stand this junky noise coming from the front wheels. I have heard the struts were bad on 03 altimas. But never pend down the problem to get it fixed? Anyone have a answer to this stupid suspension crap!
