Sorry for my belated complaint. I just learned of your website. Early evening Aug 18, 2016 entire rear window of my 2005 Nissan Altima completely blew out for no apparent reason. Fortunately -- nobody was sitting in back seat(s) of my car - no adults & no children !! what a big mess !! a clear & normal summer evening - no severe weather conditions to even provoke a crazy & sudden incident like this. Luckily -- I was not on a highway. I was on a quiet Suburban road with relatively low traffic. I was at stop light & suddenly heard a loud pop sound -- almost like a gun shot. I checked my rear view mirror & my entire car rear window was blown out with very large holes & tiny shattered glass pieces strewn all over inside back seat area of my car. Some shattered glass even blew out all way to front section where I was seated !! I immediately got off the road & pulled over into nearby walgreens parking lot & called local police. Policeman came & examined my car. He did not feel any foul play was involved nor any gunshot nor baseball thrown into my rear car window. I took 24 photos ? see 5 uploaded. He helped me gather most of broken & shattered glass into a plastic bag. We noted a few pieces had dark brown burn marks on them. He said most likely it indicated a "short" occurred in rear defroster electrical system. He could not prepare police report bcuz it did not involve any foul play. Next day I called Nissan Consumer Affairs (nca). They asked me to email my 24 photos to nca & only agreed to pay to replace rear car window. I told nca it was probably a short in rear defroster electrical system " a serious Nissan safety issue & defect. For me " a scary incident !! I saved all shattered glass pieces with dark brown burn marks, but nca did not want them. Unfortunately -- I can only upload 5 photos. If you want to view all 24 photos - call or text my cell [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Part of the front passenger side floor rusted away leaving about a 10" X 12" hole. This is right where one would probably place one's feet, getting in and out and while riding. Gerweck Nissan, in monroe, Michigan verified the problem and reported it to Nissan company. Nissan company rep. In an E-mail discussion decided not to repair the floor. What I derived from my email correspondence, is when a Nissan is nine years old and has high mileage if the metal rusts away it is normal and expected.

Noticed rust. Took it to Nissan. Floorboard rusted out. They said it is not covered. Repairs run between $3,000 to $4500. Now eating through to passenger compartment. Have to avoid areas of floor board to not put foot through. Also, I have had to replace the clutch pedal 3 times. It breaks and is cited on numerous web discussions. Air conditioner quit at 36,500 mi.

2005 Nissan Altima. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle rust damage to the floor pan. The consumer stated the passenger side floor pan had a hole measuring approximately 12 inches by 18 inches. It appeared the rust originated from inside the vehicle due to a design defect. The rust damage was directly below the passenger seat extending 18 inches forward.

Bought my 2005 Nissan Altima new and regularly serviced at the Nissan dealership in crystal lake, il. It has 111,000 miles on it, garage kept and in pristine condition. On October 15, 2014 a private party informed me of my rusted floorboards. The dealership in all 9 1/2 years never mentioned this to me. Contacted Nissan Corp who put me in touch with regional rep. Photos were taken and estimate obtained but Nissan refuses to fix the problem. I am told a tsb was issued.

Yesterday, August 6th 2014 I had a gentleman come up to me with my friends. He told me his wife had the same model Nissan Altima that I have. He looked under my car and told me, his wife had this same problem of rusting out floor pans under the drivers seat and passenger seat. I called Nissan and got a case number, in the meanwhile I had my mechanic look at the car and it is not just rust, there is a hole under the passenger seat. My mechanic said it is a design flaw and it is dangerous! I bought this car from my ex husband's estate. He bought it new from gerald Nissan in North Aurora, il. He had regular maintenance done on the car. I got it when the mileage was 39,000 miles. I did proceed to have the Nissan mechanics look it over to report back to Nissan and it is the whole pan covering the bottom of my car, cost $3,000. I listed a consumer complaint, but Nissan does not see these. There are numerous complaints on my exact car on this site. I do not think that having my safety threatened by this company's neglect is a laughing matter. I am a real estate broker and use my car for business. This is a dangerous situation and being a corporate entity, they do not feel that they have to account for their errors. I am 68 years old and I want to live. Can you help me?

I have owned my Nissan since 8/2004 purchased it new from Nissan 104th federal heights, co. Recently I found out the my passenger floorboard had rusted out. Nissan told me that it was only warranted for 4 years after that it was my problem. I took it to a collision shop and they said on this year car it never should have happened. I had it repaired for $500. Then I found out that there were other cars for Nissan Altima's from 2004 also that had rusted thru the internet. I would like the money back due to negligence of Nissan. Also this car has always been repaired by Nissan most of the time. What were the mechanics looking at only to spot this issue when the car is 9 years old.

I'm adding my 2005 Nissan Altima to the countless others with rusted through floorboards. During a recent oil change, the tech showed me where the floorboard had completely rusted away on the driver side. I counted over 120 complaints for this same problem reported to NHTSA for the 2005 Nissan, but the websphere is full of many more complaints starting with the 2002 model year. Nissan needs to acknowledge this problem and a recall should be issued before someone is injured or killed.

The floor boards have rusted through on the passenger side. There is no rust anywhere else on the vehicle but is through the floor. There are many issues reported for this issue and it stems from a design flaw that leaves an open area between 2 plates on E floor boards such that rust will inevitably form in an environment that has winter. Upon asking for assistance from Nissan they acknowledged that they understood my concern but they would be able to help because the vehicle opus outside of warranty. It is completely unacceptable that they will not fix their design flaw that poses a safety issue (fumes may enter the cabin) because of the warranty period. The rust clearly formed many years ago but was not recognized while the warranty was still valid.

While getting the oil changed, the passenger side floor pan was found to have excessive rust. Took the car to the Nissan dealership to get an assessment of the damage. They confirmed the rust was abnormal and was caused by improper water drainage. Unfortunately the car was about 4 months out of the 5 year rust warranty. The dealer would not take any action and urged me to create an incident report with Nissan corporate. I did, and upon review of the case, Nissan's refused to help with the problem and recommended me to take the car to an auto body shop to get repaired on my dollar. I understand cars rust, but there is no way the rust happened overnight. Based on the extent of the rust, the floor pan was most likely severely rusted prior to the expiration of the rust warranty. Nissan should stand by there product and repair the damage that appears to be widespread and model specific. Nissan should not only fix those vehicles where the owners have been lucky enough to have been notified by a good samaritan changing the oil. I feel penalized for not personally climbing under my car and periodically inspecting it. Suffice it to say, there is only carpet separating the passengers feet and the pavement below. Not a reassuring feeling.....

I am original owner of a 2005 Altima. We recently discovered both the driver and passenger side floorboards are rusted out/through. This car has been well cared for and this is a major concern and safety issue. I have researched this and seen numerous on-line blogs and formal complaints filed to NHTSA on the same issue for Nissan owners. I did personally contact Nissan Consumer Affairs and filed a claim with them on this matter. They very politely turned me down on any support for the structural issue and said the car is too old (7 yrs) and not under warranty anymore. The quote to fix this issue is $1,100 that I don't have and I am very disappointed in Nissan to not stand behind this structural issue. I hope the NHTSA can help me in this matter and other owners facing the same problem. Thank you
