Rear pads consistently wear out at about 30,000 KMS. 18000 miles.Initi8al story from Nissan was that if I had had the brakes serviced at 24,000kms they would be covered under warranty. They eventually covered the rotors and I had to pay for pads. They insisted that brakes needed occasional servicing ( at a cost of $75. to $100) for a couple of years, but since brakes continued to wear out prematurely, they don't suggest this anymore.
In my opinion, the rear brake pads were made very small and this caused excess wear.

When I bought my Altima in 2004 I started to hear a squeeking noise coming from my brakes, I brought it to the dealerships attention and they said that the car would have a slight squeek due to the breaks being new. So I dealt with it and it became a nussance after awhile, had my breaks front and back replaced in 2007 and they still squeek, had back brakes replaced again in 2009, still the brakes continue to squeek everytime I brake...its embarrasing and I hate it.. had an inspection on my front brakes now they need to be replaced next month. No more Nissans for me.

I went to the local tire store to have my tires balanced. They told me that my back brakes needed replaced and would do so for $250.00. Went next door to the Nissan dealer and explained the situation. I was told the brakes were not covered by the warranty. However, they could replace the brakes with genuine Nissan parts for around $280.00. I told them that my car came with genuine parts and only crazy people would recommend using them again. I then went to my neighbor hood mechanic and he replaced the rotors and calipers for much less and said he had never seen such a mess, pitted metal and worn pads. I only drive this car when I am going over 100 miles or more. I like the Nissan but think I will go back to Ford the next time I buy.

I purchased this vehicle in September 2005 and I had changed brake pads and rotors four times already. This car is not used very much as you can tell by the mileage.

We own a 2005 Nissan Altima 24,000 miles. One of the reasons we purchased the car was that Consumer Reports rated this car very good to above average in the braking system. Plus we have owned Japanese cars in the past and loved them. We had no warning before this happened. We were on vacation last winter heading south (we live in Rochester, NY) we stopped in Winchester, Va and heard this terrible noise coming from the rear of the car. Being a "new" car we didn't think anything about it. The next day we continued on thinking the problem would go away. It didn't. In Savannah, Ga we finally contacted a Nissan dealership. They were excellent getting the car right in and addressing the problem. He told us road salt rusted the left side rear caliper(that was hard to believe since we had a very very mild winter 2005-2006 and the next winter never got bad till Jan 2007)The left side rear brake, pad and rotor wore out They cleaned both rear calipers resurfaced right rotars and replaced rear pads and left rear rotor at the tune of $309.00. We talked to a family friend who was a service manager at the Nissan Dealership where we purchased the car and said it was not covered under warrently that it was wear and tear Bull Sh-- on that. To us it was a defective part. We were told that we should get at least thousand miles for the back breaks. There was no problem with the rear right side and front brakes. We also were told that if you experience problems with one side of the car you should have problems with the other side which was not the case Nissan refused to pay . Unfortunately we did not do the 15,000 mile warrently on the brakes.

Took my car in for rear sub frame recall also the nuts which hold the door hinges on were rusting. This is what was found and repaired. Left rear pad seized in the caliper. Causing pad to wear to about 5% on left rear side. Measured rotors-at Federal Minimum. Left rear caliper slide corroded and outer pad almost to metal. Replaced rear disc brake pads. Replaced rear disc brake rotors. As I am typing this complaint Nissan just called. This is their response, "Save your receipt just in case there is ever a recall. Sorry about this but there is nothing we can do for you." I wonder if there is anything connected to the sub frame recall due to corrosion and brakes corroding. Front breaks were fine.

Rear brakes pads and rotors worn out at 17,000 miles. Obviously the brakes were defective as the front brskes were fine. The emergency brake is never used so was never left on. Nissan won't cover the cost as they said it was natural wear! It certainly was worn but not naturally at 17,000 miles.

I bought the car with 53880 miles on it and the brakes were squealing. bought new brakes and rotors recommended by brake mechanic at midas and still squealing. I do get better stopping power though.
